Mark 1:29-39
This passage of Mark’s Gospel shows how Jesus gave tirelessly of himself to those in need of healing. When He cured Simon’s mother-in-law of her fever, word spread rapidly; the entire town showed up at the door! Jesus helped as many as He could, then retired for the night, more than likely feeling exhausted after His day’s work. The passage goes on to say how Jesus rose early the next morning to spend time alone in prayer. This time of solitude was short lived, as Simon and his followers found him. You and I would probably have responded with, “Really? I can’t even get ten minutes to myself!” Jesus, however, tells them it is time to go preach in the nearby villages. “For this purpose I have come.” In spending time in prayer with His father, Jesus feels recharged, ready to forge on with the ministry He was called to do.
What a powerful message for us today in the midst of all the responsibilities, schedules and “noise” that surrounds us. Jesus has modeled for us what we need to do as a community that gathers in His name; to spend time in prayer so that we too can listen and respond to the Father’s call for us. That we can draw strength from our relationship with God to go out and be a living presence of His love to those around us.

St. Clare School began the celebration of Catholic Schools Week with a Mass and a pancake breakfast last Sunday, January 29. After breakfast, students, parents, and prospective families joined us at our Open House. Our faculty, staff, students, and parent volunteers were available to answer questions about the school’s curriculum and the parish community. Last Monday and Wednesday, new parents met with members of the administrative team and student representatives and then observed our students and teachers in action. Our next two observation days are scheduled for Tuesday, February 7, and Thursday, February 9. Once again, the informational gatherings will begin at 8:30am in the rectory library with classroom visits to follow.
For more information, please stop by the School Office between 7:30am and 3:30pm to pick up an application packet or go to our website at www.stclareschool.org. All applications are due by Thursday, February 16, 2012.
The Diocese of San Jose celebrated Catholic Schools Week with a Mass last Monday, January 30. High school and elementary student council and class representatives, principals, vice-principals, and ministers gathered together in prayer at St. Joseph Cathedral with Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Daly, Monsignor Fran Cilia, Fr. Tad Terembula, and Superintendent of Schools, Kathy Almazol.
A quilt constructed from 35 uniform swatches representing the schools in our Diocese was displayed during the Liturgy. Along with the quilt, the four banners exhibited the Four Pillars of our education - Faith, Knowledge, Leadership, and Community.
Thank you to our student class representatives for representing the community of St. Clare School!
Happy Catholic Schools Week,
Madeline Rader

Our next Dinner Night Out is at Tony & Alba’s at 3137 Stevens Creek in San Jose. The required flyer was sent home in today’s envelope and is also on the Downloads page of the School Web Site. Tony & Alba’s will donate twenty percent of the total sale to St. Clare School.
Let us give a heartfelt "thank you" to Ed Almazol and his team who put in so many hours to make sure the new video cameras were successfully installed on the school property. The new surveillance system will help detour vandalism.
As many of you already know, we upgraded the placards on the school fence and parking lot. In addition, the Plexiglas covers will protect the new signs from weather damage.
